Serious illness has come into your life and the lives of those who care for you. The future is uncertain. You are meeting a lot of new health care team members and talking with them. You are trying to digest a lot of information and to make important decisions. You are probably experiencing a lot of powerful emotions at this time and may be feeling overwhelmed.

Nanaimo Hospice is available to be of support to you as soon as you or your loved one has been given a diagnosis that the illness is not curable. We want what is best for you and your family. Support is provided based on your unique needs, in a way that least disrupts your quality of life.

Patients and families experience many unfamiliar losses, changes, and demands during the course of a life limiting illness. Sometimes it is enough to know that what is happening is normal, or to be expected. Other times, when patients and family members misunderstand what is happening for each other, more information and helpful suggestions can increase their tolerance and support for one another.

Hospice staff and volunteers have a wide range of life experiences and skills that enable them to offer professional and practical assistance and supportive care to meet the special needs arising out of the physical, emotional, spiritual, social and economic stresses which are experienced by individuals and families dealing with life limiting illness.
