Each Celebrate A Life event provides an opportunity for individuals to take a moment in time to pause and remember.  Over 600 tags (over 1,000 names) were placed on our Celebrate a Life trees during December 2011 at Woodgrove Mall. Thank you to everyone who participated.

Where do the Memory Tags go after the event?

The tags are taken from the tree at the end of the two week event and are kept until January when volunteers and staff gather at Hospice House to honor the memories.  A song sung by one of our past volunteers, Jeannine Gawthrop, who has since passed away, is played and as a special poem written by Volunteer, Mary Daniel, is read, each person present takes some of the tags and places them in the fireplace at Hospice House.  While the tags burn the following is read out:

"These memory cards are filled with the love of family and friends who have lost someone they hold close in their hearts.  As we burn these cards may the smoke from this fire carry all that loving energy into the universe.  Bless the families and friends, and bless each volunteer and caregiver who has given, from the heart, in the work of Hospice over the past year."

Celebrate A Life - Poem of Remembrance

We give thanks for all these lives,

For the husbands, fathers, mothers, wives,

For the grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins,

Brothers, sisters and friends.

For the pets who were loved and gave love in return.

For the loved ones left behind, and for whom

Life without their loved ones is a painful journey to learn.

And for each and every volunteer

Who shares a kind word, a gentle touch, a tear ...

We give thanks.

Celebrate A Life. 

Celebrate A Life takes place every year in the month of December.  It's starts with our Gathering to Remember - an afternoon of music and memories by candlelight. 

Celebrate a Life is a service to our community during the holiday season.  It is also used to raise awareness and funds for hospice programs and services.
