Mission
Statement
Nanaimo Community Hospice is a registered non-profit society dedicated
to the provision of compassionate care and practical support to individuals
in the last stages of living, to their families, and to the bereaved.
Hospice promotes, and actively supports, a coordinated, interdisciplinary
program of hospice palliative care in our community.

Our Commitment

To recognize that the patient and their family caregivers
are at the centre of the care team.

To encourage and support quality of life at the end of
life, and assist individuals, whenever possible, to die in the location of
their choice.

To support caregivers who are providing care for a loved
one at the end of life in home, in hospital, and in care facilities.

To ensure that individuals experiencing grief as a
result of the loss of a loved one find adequate support by offering a
variety of programs and services to meet their needs.

To offer our programs at no cost to the recipients.
Our Values

We believe that each person is unique, and should be valued, affirmed
and treated with dignity, respect and understanding. Individual choices
should be respected to allow life to be lived fully.

We believe that life is a precious journey of growth and
development and that dying and grieving are a natural part of this journey
that can be embraced with dignity, serenity and hope.

We believe that learning is an important part of
life's journey and provides the key to knowledge, understanding and
growth. Knowledge empowers individuals to be autonomous.

Each life journey is unique. We believe that the dying
individual, their family and friends should be given quality care and
support to meet their physical, emotional and spiritual needs on their
own terms.

We believe that strength comes from our partnership
with the community and we strive to support and promote a community-wide
program of hospice palliative care.
