Volunteer Program and Opportunities
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
All Client-Based Volunteers
All volunteers wishing to be involved in client care programs must attend a basic 40 hour training program. When the training is completed new volunteers are mentored by an experienced volunteer for a period of 3 months. Upon completion of training, volunteer opportunities may include 1:1 support for individuals and families in their own homes or in hospital on the palliative care unit; facilitation of support groups, or working in the Self Care Clinic. All volunteers participate in continuing education.
Palliative Care Unit:
Volunteers support patients and families in the hospital. Orientation to the hospital and mentoring by experienced volunteers supports is provided to new volunteers.
1 to 1 Home Visiting:
Volunteers visit palliative clients in their homes offering companionship, practical support and respite for the caregiver.
Adult Group Facilitation
Volunteers working in group programs receive continuing education, mentoring, and support that allows them to be effective facilitators within a group setting.
Self Care Clinic
Volunteers working in the clinic must take the basic 40 hour volunteer training program and have skills in one or more of the complementary therapies (reiki, healing touch, therapeutic touch, etc).
Child and Youth Program
Volunteers can assist Counselors in providing education to youth regarding grief and loss.
Sharing My Story
Trained volunteers record life stories of palliative clients to create a legacy for family on CD.
Comfort Cushions and Shawl Program
Volunteers assist in the production of these cushions and warm wraps provided for warmth and support

Thrift store volunteers - call 250-758-8886
Office/House - Volunteers provide support at Hospice House including reception coverage, help with the library and general office duties as well as light housekeeping at Hospice House
Special Events - Opportunities exist to help with a variety of special events and fund raisers such as Hike for Hospice, Celebrate a Life, Gathering to Remember and more.
